Meet the Midwife
How I got here
Hello and welcome! I’m Ashley Hall. I have been serving women and families in birth work since 2021, and I have loved every minute of it. I was first introduced to my midwifery calling when I was in labor with my first child. It was a planned hospital birth, but a midwife who I had never met before was on call. Debbi Lowrance is her name, and her gentleness and kindess with young 19 year old me was something that left a huge impact on how I viewed pregnancy and birth. With my second child I saw that same midwife throughout pregnancy but had an unexpected move from Illinois to Kentucky at 32 weeks pregnant. Leaving my midwife was hard, but finding out “midwives cannot catch babies” from my local hospital was harder. This hospital birth left me feeling unheard, disrespected and traumatized. I knew I had to do something different with my next child. As soon as I knew I was pregnant with my third baby, I hired a midwife and was determined to birth at home. (Which I did, it was the best experience ever!!) My midwife made me feel safe, confident and heard. My fourth child was a planned unassisted home birth. Even though I loved my midwife prior, something in me had to experience birth in a new way. I knew birth was not a medical event, but I needed to confirm what I knew. The birth was pretty straightforward. Nothing out of the ordinary, but it left me wanting something more, like I was missing a huge part of my birth experience. I missed having a midwife. I craved being mothered, loved, held, seen and cared for. The midwives that changed my birth experiences didn’t do so by “saving my life” or using all the tools, keeping dopplers or blood pressure cuffs attached to me, or intervening. They simply walked beside me, rubbed my shoulders and told me “you can do this.”
I was able to see the love of Jesus through midwifery care, and that is how I am also called show the love of Jesus to any mothers He brings into my life. I vow to love, hear, respect and hold these extraordinary women and their babies, provding the best prenatal care, labor guidance and postpartum suport.
When I’m off duty
When I’m not running around doing prenatals, postpartum visits or sitting at a birth, you can find me at home keeping busy at all times. I homeschool my children, knit and crochet a variety of items anywhere from educational props to baby sweaters, and craft herbal remedies which you can find in my shop. I try to make items that will one day benefit the moms I serve. I have created a fun pregnancy journal and guide (on Amazon- Full Bloom by Ashley Rodgers) and I am currently working on a second edition. You might also catch me outside tending to my 13 chickensI I have a few dogs and an angora rabbit that I spoil almost as much as my own children. I love to read midwifery/birth books but also some fiction. At night I like to binge watch Call the Midwife, Friends or the Office.
Education
I began my midwifery education as a self-taught birth sister in 2021. I knew I wanted to learn deeper under midwives so I signed up with Indie Birth Midwifery School in August 2022 and as of February 2024, I have officially graduated! In April 2023, I started an apprenticeship with a Licensed Certified Professional Midwife. I am certified in NRP and CPR, and I have completed training with Breech Without Borders (Breech Pro). My education never stops as I will always seek out more opportunities to learn and be a better midwife.
Approach to Care
Empowering women to take back control of their birthing experience is one of my greatest passions. I believe that the journey from pregnancy to postpartum should be guided by the woman’s autonomy. Having experienced my last two births at home, I fully appreciate the significance of physiological and autonomous birth, and the transformative impact this can have on the entire family.
Serving under the guidance of God, I strive to honor His perfect design of the birthing process. This involves providing comprehensive, respectful and compassionate care that supports a woman’s physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Through my work, I endeavor to inspire faith, hope and courage, instilling a deep trust in the miracle of life that grows within.
Creating meaningful connections and nurturing lasting friendships is of great importance to me. I value the relationships I cultivate with the women and families I serve, aiming to provide continuous care and support beyond the fourth trimester. By building trust and open communication, I work to empower women to make fully informed decisions, provide compassionate support, and inspire confidence in their own abilities to birth and nourish new life.
Overall, my goal is to offer a personalized, respectful, and empowering source of care and support that allows women to experience the full beauty of childbirth in alignment with God’s intentions.
